Thursday 3 February
Last week was the welcome week for
international students who have just arrived at Leeds Met. I was
once a new international student. I still remember my first week
when I felt lost and was quite alone until I was told about Global
Café. I was initially apprehensive about attending but decided
to tag along to find out what it is all about. I’m glad I went for
it’s certainly been an enjoyable experience for the past four
months. It is here where I get to meet other international students
and also the local people who are helping out.
Through this, I developed a friendship with some of them which I
truly treasure. Every week there is a theme; through it, I learn
about some of the cultures in the UK and also from other countries.
Learning about local culture has certainly been insightful for me as
what I perceived to be alright may not be so to some of the locals.
With this knowledge, I’m able to communicate better with local
people. With new international students coming in last week, I hope
they could take some time to see what it is all about. It has
certainly helped me.
