Who are we? Global Café is run by a team of local Christian volunteers. Some volunteers are students at Leeds Met and are part of the Christian Union others are a bit older and are from different mainstream churches in Leeds. Most of the volunteers are British however we are pleased to have a few Internationals as part of the team as well. Philip Thomas from Friends International, a Christian charity, leads the team. We have a good relationship with the University Chaplaincy as they helped in the initial setting up of the café. Why do we organise Global Café? As Christians we have experienced Gods love and care, therefore we want to respond with love and care for others. We realised that International students find it hard to meet British people and that being an International student can be a lonely and sometimes difficult time. We did some research that showed 98% of the International Students that we asked would like a meeting point like Global Café – so we set it up. What are the aims of Global Café? To offer friendship:
