DISCOVERING CHRISTIANITY GROUPS

Do you want to find out about Jesus Christ and the Bible?

If yes then please come to a ‘Discovering Christianity group’ a group that is especially for International Students who want to find out about Christianity.

What happens in a discovering Christianity groups?

Each week the group lasts for one hour and you can learn something new about Christianity, ask any questions you like, and see how knowing God can change our life. We go through a course ‘Introduction to Jesus Christ and the Bible’ which

lasts for 8 weeks. There is no pressure to become a Christian - we just want to give you the opportunity to find out about more.

Who are the discovering Christianity groups for?

They are open to all International students, from any faith or none. No knowledge of Christianity is required. In the past International students who are Buddhists, Muslims, Sikhs and others with no religion have attended and have enjoyed finding out about Christianity, taking part in the discussions or just listening to what others have to say.

Who runs discovering Christianity groups?

The groups are set up by Global Café and are led by friendly local people (both British students and locals) which also gives you an opportunity to practice your English. The groups are informal and relaxed.

When & Where?

The group will start mid October at the same venue as the global café (Civic quarter, next to the theatre, first floor G building) the hour before the global café 6.15-7.15pm.

We are flexible and it is easy for us to have groups at other times of the week and in other locations. If you are interested in finding out about Christianity but can’t come at that time please email Phil and he’ll try to arrange a time which is good for you.

How can I attend a group?

If you are interested please email Phil on Philip.thomas@friendsinternational.org.uk saying where you live and which time in the week is best for you and he would be pleased to put you in touch with your nearest group.

What other International Students have thought of these groups…

Here is what one student, a Muslim, from the Middle East thinks of the Discovering Christianity group.

Bible group discussions: to some this might be boring or not interesting. For me it was learning more about a book that I respect and that I wanted to know more about. I always had interest in the Bible and I always had one close to me, but I never opened it and read until I joined the Bible group and it was an interesting experience for me.

Here are the thoughts of an East Asian student who attends the group.

The group was organised for people who want to know more about God and though I have always wanted to know more since my mum was once a Christian and I’m interested to know more. The group was done in an informal way where we discuss about the Bible so its good and it relaxes me thus allowing me to take in more easily. Our leader/mentor Matt, sometimes uses interesting ways to discuss more about God, most recent being a DVD on God’s existence. Thus far I learnt a lot and after our study group I usually go to church with Matt to learn more.
